Title and Abstract
Title ForestreeArt: Celebrating the Magnificence of Trees with Art
Abstract
I used acrylic paint and created paintings on dried, pressed leaves which I framed and sold on etsy.com. I also created an Instagram page to promote my art.
Changes
In my original proposal I intended to use some of the money I made on the leaf paintings to donate to the grounds crew to start a tree replacement fund for campus. After doing some research, I found that the grounds crew already has in their budget, sufficient funds to plant and replace trees. I felt that it would be unnecessary to donate any money because they have a sufficient budget year after year
Goals and Outcomes
Project Goal
For my EDGE project I painted 40 leaves and marketed them on Etsy.com

Not all 40 leaves were marketed on Etsy, some were marketed on my Instagram account alone.
This goal was achieved by spending a few hours being creative every day of winter break. I spent time looking for inspiration in my surroundings and by looking at outdoor photography. I was able to create many paintings from the inspiration I received. Some customers started requesting special orders as well.
I also needed to create an account on Etsy.com to market my products. Becoming more involved in social media also helped me in completing this project. I created an Instagram account which helped greatly with the marketing and promoting of my art.

Through this project, others were inspired to care for and appreciate trees.
This project greatly helped me improve my artistic talents. Every leaf I painted showed improvement. Comparing the first leaf painting to the most recent one, there is a definite, observable difference in my improvement as an artist. Doing this project inspired me to branch out and paint not only leaves, but experiment with other mediums and surfaces as well. It has been amazing to step out of my comfort zone and try new things.
I feel that this project also inspired others to care for and appreciate trees. I received many comments from customers who loved their tree art and felt the need to care for the environment. I donated a leaf to a special interest group in the state Washington who clean trails all over Mt. Rainier and Mt. Olympus. They held a silent auction to raise money to go towards their efforts of keeping nature clean and trash-free. I also hosted a giveaway and collaborated with a Utah-based, outdoor clothing company that encourages going outside and enjoying nature. I feel that those who participated in these events were inspired to go out and appreciate trees and nature in general.
When beginning this project, I had hoped that my art would do well and that there would be some interest. Unexpectedly, I sold over half of the leaves I painted! I was very surprised about the amount of interest there really was. I was expecting to sell around 5 total but I ended up selling more than 20 leaves.
